The Methods On Globec Data Internet Mapping Development By Using Open Source Software

The research topic in this thesis came from the GLOBEC data-sharing program. The GLOBEC data-sharing service is provided by the U.S. GLOBEC Data Management Office from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Since the current JGOFS/GLOBEC Data Management System is based on the CVS file, the system is unable to carry on the data the global administration. In order to provide the GLOBEC sharing service, the database system needs to update. The contents of the database system updating includes: Retrieve the online GLOBEC data and load them into the GLOBEC metadata database (BCO-DMO MetaData), design and accomplish the BCO_DB PERL module, accomplish the BCO-DMO MetaData database management system based on browser-server mode. Also, the database updating is the basis of the Web GIS and Google Earth Map service.In the current GIS field, Google Earth and WEB GIS are two big development hot spots. The research in this thesis is based on the open source script language Perl, the most popular open source database system MySQL as well as the powerful open source Web GIS solution-MapServer, carry on the preliminary discussion separately to two direction applications. The purpose of this thesis is to find a free Web GIS solution based on MapServer and Google Earth.With the rapidly developing of Google Earth, the thesis introduces the definition of the KML. Uses the Perl script to retrieve GLOBEC metadata database to produce the KML documents, through registers the KML service in the Apache server system to the user output, realizes GLOBEC metadata Google Earth map online service.Using the PHP/MapScript module from Mapserver to realize the GLOBEC metadata Web GIS service. The map image output is realized by MapServer and using JavaScript to strengthen the flexibility of map roaming and zooming, simultaneously strengthen the server end and the client side correspondence flexibility by using the AJAX technology.
