Along with the rapid growth of GIS and Internet, WebGIS becomes the inevitable trend of GIS development.The WebGIS service is so heavy that the single device can not undertake the burden. Using the LVS (Linux Virtual Server) and dynamic load balancing algorithm, not only the WebGIS service can be responded quickly, but also the reliability can be enhanced.This paper is based on the project which we practiced in Lanzhou Geotechnical And Survey Design Institute. We take the WebGIS cluster as a study, and make a deep research on LVS and dynamic load balancing algorithm on WebGIS cluster. Then we design the architecture of Lanzhou WebGIS system on Linux cluster. By the realization, we prove that the WebGIS service can be achieved using LVS, dynamic load balancing algorithm and MapServer.
