While Chinese media market opens, the competition between media is increasingly furious. Cross-regional communication is a general law emerged from the development of media all over the world since 1950s.It's a reflection of economic globalization and regional economic integration in the media field. Media of all kinds are exploring and seeking the external expansion paths for their own. Now, a new trend is becoming increasingly prominent - exploring outside their original territory, a new type of external-oriented media "came into being."The economic, political, social and cultural development of regional economy influences the formation and development of external-oriented media. Whereas, the formation of external-oriented media promotes the regional image and the development of regional economy, culture, and society, also, this provides unlimited possibilities of strengthening interregional interaction. China has different modes for each regional economy, thus, "external-oriented media" were marked with the region's brand. Although developed in different ways, or with different results, they together reflect the irreversible trend of media expansion.By the use of literature analysis as well as the high-end interview, this paper compared the external-oriented media of the comparatively mature Pearl River Delta City Group and the recently put forward Wuhan City Circle, and tried to explore different developing mode of the external-oriented media. Also, this study discussed the causes for different modes and summarized the strategies of external-oriented media in mature region, which provides references for the development of external-oriented media in Wuhan City Circle.
