Since the reform and opening up, China's pharmaceutical industry have developed along the fast lane, the pharmaceutical industry produced an average annual increase of 17.7%. But as to China's pharmaceutical enterprise information, it has a great gap to the international level. The information technology of the whole pharmaceutical industry, still belonged to the level of low-level applications. Pharmaceutical distribution structure is unreasonable, the pharmaceutical market order flow is more chaotic, which can not support decision makers from data.Certainly, for decision makers, they can not make good decisions. Thus, information to the construction of the pharmaceutical industry makes more demands. With the development of information technology, the emergence of business intelligence can help companies make the right business for their own informed decisions. In this context, this paper research and develop the pharmaceutical industry's business intelligence system.The business intelligence system for the pharmaceutical industry is the decision support system in essence, which provides a variety of data analysis, report view and custom reporting. This paper is based on B/S architecture, using J2EE as the development platform, using open source framework Pentaho for the construction of data marts and OLAP multidimensional data analysis model to complete the system function. Through the use of prototype analysis method, we conclude the overall system requirement after constant iteration and analysis of customer requirement, identify the subject field. Requirement analys point that ETL process, multidimensional data analysis, custom reporting is the core in the system. In the underlying database, we use the star model, combined with snowflake design model, realize the ETL process. In multidimensional data analysis, Mondrian model, as to the core engine of the OLAP, and Jpivot tag library achieve BI system functionality using MDX language as interaction between the custom and the system. In the custom report filed, the Pentaho Report Designer integrated in Pentaho BI framework is to achieve it. The business intelligence system for the pharmaceutical industry, basically meets the needs of the pharmaceutical industry customers. This research showed that, based on Pentaho open source business intelligence framework for research in specific industry is feasible and meaningful. It can be a very good use in small and medium enterprises, which has a low cost , promotion of good value and commercial value.
