RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is an automatic identification technology rising in recent years. Compared with the traditional bar code systems and contacted IC card, RFID system is a non-contact mode and bidirectional data communications to achieve the goal of exchanging information. RFID technology is waterproof, antimagnetic, thermostable and longlived. It can identify targets from a long distance and encrypt the data of tags. It has a bigger capacity of memory and can modify memory information easily. So RFID technology can be better applied to manufacturing. This paper introduced the background, significance, current situations and applications of the study. The paper introduced the knowledge of RFID technology and discussed the advantages and feasibility of using RFID technology into MES by analyzing the MES (Manufacturing Execution System). Then the hardware and software structure of MES based on RFID were designed and the function of the system was introduced. The paper discussed the advantages of combining RFID technology and traditional selective assembly methods by analyzing the problems of current selective assembly technology. The mating of hole and shaft was selected to be the object of study, and then the methods and modes of selective assembly based on RFID were studied. Then the relevant methods and contents of the study were given. On the one hand, in order to evaluate the quality of selective assembly, the paper put forward the cost of quality loss to be the estimate indicator for the parts which met the conditions for full interchangeability. The methods of studying the relationship between the costs of quality loss and production batch were given by studying a kind of mating of holes and shafts. The optimal production batch would be obtained by using this method into the actual production. On the other hand, the selective assembly methods in which the parts were not completely interchangeable was studied, and the paper put forward the matching rate to be the estimate indicator. For a high-precision mating of holes and shafts, the machining precision of two kinds of parts could be enlarged in levels. The methods of studying the relationship between the matching rate and production batch under different machining precision were given. The optimal production batch and machining precision of two kinds of parts would be obtained by using this method. By doing that, the parts could be manufactured in economic machining precision, and this could reduce production costs and improve the economic efficiency of enterprises. The paper also introduced a model of selective assembly based on RFID and the principle was introduced.A kind of simulation MES based on RFID was designed and developed on basis of the above studies and existing conditions and equipment in the laboratory. This software can be achieved functions such as digital design of machining process, management and monitor of production, selective assembly management, RFID equipment management, maintenance of production data and so on.
