The Study Of Reception Technology For The Fm Radio Data System

With the development of IT technology, the ordinary FM broadcast which can only transmit sound signal has not satisfied the people's requirements. The FM Radio Data System can not only transmit the voice signal, but also transmit the data information. It does not take the new frequency resources and network equipments, which is considered to be one of the most economical mean of wireless data transmission. RDS is applicable for VHF/FM Broadcast in the range from 87.5 MHz to 108.0 MHz. It loads data into each radio within 57 kHz band, along with the broadcast audio signal. The frequency of RDS is low, and the bandwidth is narrow. It requires the small changes in FM radio receiver, and has the great advantage in price. The digital broadcast receiver containing RDS function, not only receives FM stereo radio, but also shows the business name of the program and automatically turns the frequency.First, backgrounds of research of the FM Radio Data System both in and out of the country are presented. Then, in this paper, the author discusses the reference model of RDS consisting of the physical layer, the data-link layer, the session layer and the presentation layer. The emphases of research are the theories and technology of RDS such as the coding and decoding of RDS baseband signal, the error checkout and the synchronization of RDS data frame, the type of RDS data frame, the business applications of RDS and so on. Next, from the view of hardware design and software programming of the RDS receiver, the author states the design and selection of device, and proposes a set of practical solution. Finally, the author analyzes cyclic redundancy check (CRC) based on single-chip computer calculation methods, with advantages and disadvantages on performance, and brings out a successful resolution.Finally, a conclusion of the thesis is presented, and some further prospects of the research are made.
