ObjectiveTo investigate the progress of drugstore trusteeship that has been established in the medicinal organizations in our country and analyzes its accomplishments. Based on the current situation of the drugstore trusteeship and the discussion of its availability, existing problems and solutions in a military hospital, we hope to provide some help to its practice.MethodsBy the comparison of the classical drugstore trusteeship case "Liuzhou Mode", "Nanjing Mode" and "Suzhou Mode", this paper discusses the current situation, practice modes, advantages and availabilities of our drugstore trusteeship. We also sum up its accomplishments and shortcomings, such as the delay of personnel system, the contradiction between supply and demand of drugs, monopolies of drugs and the lack of governmental supervision. This paper also analyzes the drugstore trusteeship mode, the benefit before and after it and its achievements of one specific Liberation Army hospital so as to discuss the availability, existing problems and solutions to practice this in a general military hospital.Results(1) The nationwide practice of drugstore trusteeship has proved that it is feasible as a new exploration of the medical system revolution and has been making great efforts in separating drugstore from hospitals.(2) According to the case analysis, the hospital is the biggest beneficiary of the drugstore trusteeship. Not only does it reduce the operating costs of the hospital, it also increases the benefits from drug sales by 20-30%. The income of the staff increases by 30-40% as well.(3) The prices of drugs are generally steady with some slight reduce. The common low-price drugs are kept at the same price, while the prices of the common high-price drugs are cut down significantly so as to reduce the expense of patients.ConclusionsThe exploration of drugstore trusteeship has been tough, but significant achievements have been accomplished. Meanwhile, there are still problems, such as the delay of personnel system, the contradiction between supply and demand of drugs, monopolies of drugs and the lack of governmental supervision. Further development and improvement depend on the joint effort of the government, medicinal organizations and drug retail enterprises. According to the scale of the medicinal organizations, service targets, geographical location and hospital advantages, different modes are adapted to maximize the balance of interests through the personalized adjustment and insure the practice of the drugstore trusteeship.Drugstore trusteeship can be considered as the realignment of the hospital and pharmaceutical industry, not the terminal aim though. Drugstore trusteeship cannot just be retained in the stage of drug demand and supply. It should also provide medical consultation and pharmaceutical management services for the medicinal organizations.
