A Research On The Infection Of Aids, Syphilis, Hepatitis C And Relative Factors Among Drug Users In Wuhan City

Objective: To determine the demographic characteristics, the using drugs, the proportion of injecting drugs, needle sharing among drug users in Wuhan City; Understand the infection of AIDS, syphilis,heapatitic C and relative factors among drug users; Master the drug user about the knowledge of AIDS, attitude and behavior, And provide the basis for making and implementations of interventions, so as to provide the based information for the evaluation of the intervention.Methods: Use the classification of non-probability snowball sampling method. The research places are in the 16 methadone maintenance treatment clinics, choose the new participants for methadone therapy, who are suitable for the needed. At the mean time, Recruit the companiors from the communities and drug rehabilitation center, who are also suitable for the needed. Then make questionnaire and collect the bloodof them. Use ELISA method to test HIV, HCV antibodies in the serum. The syphilis'antibodies are detected by RPR method. The data are entered by epidata 3.1 software, and use the SAS 8.2 for statistical analysis.Results: We collected 445 questionnaires and 411 samples of blood. The questionnaire and blood samples are matched with 408 shares, the responsible rate of the questionnaire is 91.69%. The average age of the drug users is 38, there are 70 percent drug users staying in home. Most people are married, the education level mostly are junior secondary school. 95% of the people are living in Wuhan more than two years. The answer rate for the'mosquito bites do not spread HIV'question is 44.78%, the rest questions'answer rates are above 70%.The average age for the first time using drugs is 27, heroin are the most popular drugs, the using rate is 94.68%, 77.26 percent of the drug users had injected drugs, the average age for the first time injecting drugs is 29, 16.55% had shared needles with others among injecting drug users.In the past year, the incidence for the temporary intercourse is 20.15%, the rate of using condoms with temporary sexer is 40.24%; 7.43 percent of the drug user got commercial sex, and 1.74 percent of the drug users provided sex for others.In this survey, the number of infected syphilis is 22, the positive rate is 5.39%, 315 drug users are infected hepatitis C, the rate is 77.21%. Women are more dengerous than men in infected syphilis,OR=7.100; The factors of infected hepatitis C are injecting drugs, stayed in the drug rehabilitation center in the past(repeated using drugs), OR=23.967, 2.748.Conclusion: The different demographic characteristics of drug users are different in the using drugs, injecting drugs, sharing needles, temporary sex behavior, infected hepatitis C are significantly higher than the general population. We should take appopriate preventive measures to reduce needles sharing among drug users and unsafe sex behavior.
