Objectives To investigate the venues frequented by MSM and the common characteristics among MSM. To analyze MSM high-risk sexual behaviors and the related factors, and obtain the prevalence of HIV and syphilis among YMSM.Methods Sub-structural questionnaires were used in ten MSM, and another ten MSM were interviewed in gay bar to know the characters of venues , sexual partners, sexual behaviors and the prevalence of HIV/STDs among MSM. First hand information of the locations, service lists and the surroundings of their gathering places was collected through our visiting and observation. At the same time, three owners of gay bars and bath-pools were interviewed as well in order to know more details about those MSM and their frequently visiting spots. Gay websites were browsed to get informations about the MSM characteristics.A sample of 101 YMSM who visited three gay bars in Hefei completed an anonymous questionnaire which included the demographic information, sexual behavior, sexual partners, level of knowledge about AIDS risk, suicidal intention, symptoms of anxiety and depression, and so on.Altogether 202 YMSM were recruited through RDS (Respond Driven Sampling), introduction from informative key persons and advertisement on gay website. At first, YMSM who were eligible and willing to participate in the study were provided informed consent. After that, 20-minute face to face questionnaire investigation was administered by our trained interviewers. By the way, based on YMSM's consent, at the end of the interviews, participants would be asked to be drawed 5ml blood specimen for HIV and syphilis anti-body testing.
