Objective:Assemble and sort literature on Zhigancao Tang in successive dynasities so as to reveal its regular application pattern and to induce and extract its contemporary indications and symptoms.Methods:Take thoroughil possession of relevant documents,which could be classified intu five types such as prescription,discussion on prescription,pharmacological and empirical study,medical record and clinical observation and draw out information accordingly.Pairing medthod was adopted to analyze the first three types of documents while statistical method to the others.The experience of using Zhigancao Tang in ancient times was summed up in three ways,namely spectrum of disease,constitution of patients in point and typical indication. So did the domestic experience, experience in Japan and individual experience form the clinical practice of Professor Huang Huang respectively.Results:1.The indications and symptoms of Zhigancao Tang both in ancient times and up tu date were concluded by document statistics and analysis.2.Considering epoch and academic background,the reasons of coming into being and determinative factors of the indications and symptoms mentioned above were analyzed.3.Consummate and systematic indications and symptoms of Zhigancao Tang were induced through contrasting and synthesizing the indications and symptoms in past dynasties.4.Discussions were made on clinical use of Zhigancao Tang,for instance, symptom diccrimination,herb gesus,dosage,form and taboo.Conclusions:It's an indication about prescription and diagnosis for zhigancaotang.Three terminological words will be used which are compelling indication,consitution and spectrum of diseases. 1).Patients will have tipical compelling indications as follows:intermittent pulse, a poor condition in general like palpitation,fleshless,anaemia,kraurotic skin,powerless,soft abdomen or short-breath,cough,abdomen pain,dizzy,poor appetite,insomnia,dry stools.2).For constituion,patients who always turned to be the senile or those dignosed cancer but no gender difference will normally present severe rawboned,dry skin,malnutrition appearence and fatigue.Neurology problems as insomnia and dreamy sleep,sweaty,dysphoria,dizzy with palpation,chest pain,dyspnoea,cough,poor appetite etc.Normally they crave for water,hold worries about endless bleeding or unclosed ulcers. soft lower abdomen,dry stools,intermittent,weak pulse.3).Pectrum of diseases.In the circulatory system:coronary heart disease,viral myocarditis,hypertension heart,rheumatic heart disease, cardioneurosis, drug-induced heart disease,hypotension,hyperthyroidic heart disease,arrhythmia; gastric cancer,lung cancer,esophageal cancer,colon cancer,rectal cancer, cervical cancer;ulceral bleeding,nose leeding,haemoptysis,hematochezia,hematuria,metrorrhagia,postpartum hemorrhage; In digestive,respiratory and urinary system:chronic atrophic gastritis,gastric ulcer,constipation,hepatocirrhosis,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,chronic nephritis; neurology system:neurosis,insomnia,encephalopathia toxica,post-traumatic brain syndrome; endocriminology system:hyperthyroidism;ophthalmology disease:allergic rhinitis,mouth ulcers; dermitology:hives,senile itchy skin;hematological system:aplastic anemia,idiopathic thrombcytopenic purpura;gynaecology:irregular periods,perimenalpausal syndrom,senile vaginitis.2.Relevant issues:change decoction after long and wine-simultaneously cooked at the early stage into pills or pastes when it's stable;median dose was reccomended for stable stage,minor dose was reccomended for chronic disease or condition improved problems,massive dose was reccomended in acute diseases such as bleeding,heat-attacks.
