Art Gallery Of Lighting Research And Practice

Art gallery industry is booming at the background of economic prosperity and political stability. As a place of art exhibition and sale, the light there should play the role of both art exhibition and commercial attract. Some private gallery contains work places, so the light should be suit for painting. Present research of display light focus on museum and art museum. Some related specifications are made in China Architectural Lighting Design Standard (GB50034-2004), and valuable practical experience are gained in the field of display lighting. But we neglect art gallery which is used for painting, display and sale. Study in this paper uses the research model in museum as reference, based on the needs of artist's painting and display of paintings, use a professional lighting theory to provide implemented basis for gallery lighting.The paper starts with an analysis of the difference between gallery lighting and museum lighting, proposing that it's necessary and important to study the gallery lighting separately. The author studies the color characteristic which is most important in display light, compares and analyzes the effect of artificial light sources, draws a conclusion that which is the most suitable artificial light source for gallery lighting.On the theory basis, the author visits some well-known painters, investigates the gallery lighting status, indicate the strength and weakness then communicates with painters to know their demand for light and improve the lighting environment. The author designs a lamp whose illuminance and color temperature could be adjusted to meet different artists' demands, and makes practical experiment to test the solutions.Chapter IIII analyzes and researches display lighting, including the use of natural light, artificial light and mixed light, For different kinds of paintings, there are different reasonable design manners and indexes, involves lighting to paintings, lighting to exhibit space and other transitional spaces. Then author designs a private gallery, communicates with him, builds lighting model, simulates and calculates kinds of light distributed parameters then makes on-site experiment, chooses the best lamp and most suitable arrangement pattern. After all the installation, the owner of the art gallery is satisfied with the lighting environment.In the final chapter, the paper makes a conclusion both from theory and practice, provides a lighting system to the painters, gallery owners and light designers for reference, to build a good and comfortable light environment for artistic creation and exhibition.
