The railway construction in China is entering a new stage. Especially like high-speed railway, passenger dedicated line etc., that large infrastructure projects have many features, such as long construction period, huge investment, complicated skills and high quality. These are having deep influence to economy, society and environment. The factors that engineering management involved are much more complex and enormous. If the government or project corporations want to manage the project well, they need processing massive engineering information, as well as communicating and coordinating with many stakeholders. The traditional static 2D form, such as excel table, network chart and so on, can not visually express engineering information and make effective communication and information sharing. Thus, a visual and effective way should be created to realize engineering construction information sharing in Internet.Accounted mentioned above, the WebGIS was introduced to railway engineering construction management to make a visual management based on Internet became possible. Main content as follow:(1) Completed total design and analysis of the Railway Engineering Construction Management Information System based on WebGIS, including chosen computer hardware platform, constructed WebGIS software platform, and designed total structure and function of system.(2) Constructed a central database for railway project. By analyzing features of railway engineering information, designed the data model of railway construction information abasing on Geodatabase, realized massive, multiple and multi-source engineering information and spatial information be efficiently collected and managed.(3) Published and visually queried the railway engineering information in Internet. Referenced to the current situation of WebGIS platform around world, then chosen ArcGIS Server as information publishing platform. Used J2EE,Adobe Flex technology and ArcGIS API for Flex which belongs to ArcGIS Server's extended components, combining with engineering reality. This paper established the Railway Engineering Construction Management Information System based on WebGIS, realized the function that map of railway can be real-time browsed and the engineering information can be visually queried.(4) Used Fault Tree Analysis, the paper made reliable analysis to the quality management system in railway engineering, including quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. Then built Fault Tree and found out failure mode which caused the bad run of quality management in railway engineering.
