Cylindrical gear reducers are mechanical device with high generality, standardization and serialization. It plays a key role in many mechanical facilities to change speed, directions and transmit power. With the rapid development of CAD/CAM technology, profound changes have taken place in manufacturing and engineering design industry. In the design of cylindrical gear reducer drive system,3D parametric CAD/CAM technology has been widely deployed in many large-scale enterprises to improve design efficiency greatly. The new concepts and approaches as three-dimensional modeling, parametric design technology and virtual reality technology have been infiltrated into the traditional structure design and play an unprecedented role in promoting the development of engineering design.This paper focuses on the found of Pro/E software product parametric CAD system with the core of two cylindrical gear reducer parametric design on the basis of deep study of physical parameters of design, associated with Pro/E secondary development technology, database interface technology and the development steps of parametric CAD systems and gave details of the system's research development.. The main research programs are as follows.(1) To determine the overall system design scheme and select the type of the reduction gear, develop tools and runtime environment, and give the overall design of the program(2) To establish the common cylindrical gear reducer fittings in the Pro/E environment with the feature-based parametric design method and use it in every model to achieve the combination of the design rules, standards, experience and model parameters driving mechanism.(3) To study the establishment and management techniques on the basis of C/S mode and establish cylindrical gear reducer design knowledge database with the help of SQL/ Server to realize the inheritance and reuse of design knowledge.(4) To develop Pro/E secondly, study and apply the interface technology.(5) To achieve the interaction of data and Pro/ENGINEER through ODBC database connected with the VC++6.0 in order to manage the various parts of the reducer centrally.(6) To generate parameterized model library of gears and the related parts.In this research, a library of general and standard parts used in the design of cylindrical gear reducers was generated. Parametric design of gear and shaft assembly has also been completed from the perspective of intelligent design so as to improve design efficiency and reduce the cycle of design.
