In the age of economic globalization and drastic competition, responding to the market rapidly is the key factor of getting victory for an enterprise. But the traditional product development process depends on the experience of the designers excessively, and needs to consult lots of handbooks. Especially for the design of similar product, there are great repetitive work for calculation and modeling. Besides, modeling standard parts repeatedly is also a troublesome problem for the designer. All these affect seriously the design quality and efficiency of product. At present, gear reducer is applied extensively as a mechanism, but its similar and complex structure brings repetition and trouble to the design work. Traditional methods of design are far beyond the requirement in development of technology, so it is the preferential schema to respond rapidly for the enterprise that the knowledge and experience are merged into the CAD system to realize the parametric design.Therefore, this paper takes cylindrical gear reducer as an example, develops a reducer 3D parametric CAD system by using of the techniques of secondary development of Pro/E, parametric design and DBMS. This system develops and runs on Windows 2000 Server system, takes VC++ 6.0 as the integration development environment and Pro/E as the secondary development platform. By use of this system, the user can design all parts of the reducer conveniently, and use the standard parts library directly. This system not only would improve the design efficiency and quality of product, but also would be valuable to the development and application of CAD technology and KMS in the enterprise.The main researches in this paper are as follows:(1) By the theory of parametric design based on feature, using Pro/E to create reducer part and assembly model library;(2) Establishing the design knowledge database of reducer based on SQL-Sever, for realizing the reuse of the design knowledge and experience;(3) Developing the database application between Pro/E and SQL-Sever by using...
