The destabilization of slope, including landslide, rockfall and bedload-fluction, is one of three geological hazards. The others are earthquake and volcanoes. Recent years, the slopes of mine, reservoir, dam, railway and highway are becoming larger, higher and more complicated than before. And the study on the stability of rock slope is a concentrated problem. This project is studied in this dissertation.1)The mechanism of instability of high and steep rock slopes and the main factors affecting the stability of rock slops are comprehensively analyzed. Based on the finite-element method , the different parts of complicated rock are simulated and the general geologic model is established with the rock strength parameters reduced to calculate its stresses and displacements. So as to precisely analyze the stability of high and steep rock slopes.2)As an example, the element stresses, element stability factors and nodal displacements have been calculated in Kunming Chaishitan reservoir overflow spillway high slope. By systematically analyzing these data, we find that the slope is instable even after reducing the slope to decrease load and that comprehensive renovate scheme of overstepening must be taken. The conclusion can also be drawn the reducing the slope to decrease load makes stresses changed to increase the stability of the slope.3)Some suggestions on rock slope monitoring are put forward based on literature at home and abroad.
