Urban Road Traffic Sign Design And Setting

Urban road traffic is a hot issue concerned by the whole society. Improving the traffic performance, increasing the road capacity and reducing the traffic accidents can be achieved by setting and locating the traffic signs. This paper focuses on the theory of traffic signs and presents the solutions to the traffic problem from the perspectives of design and setting of traffic signs.This paper starts with the literature review of traffic signs and makes further studies on impact mechanism of traffic signs on the people, vehicle and road based on the characteristic of urban road traffic. This paper presents the mathematical formulation to calculate the three main technical indicators for traffic signs design on the basis of the modeling of diver's visual, the vehicle driving model and road environment model. This paper also analyzes the characteristics of traffic flow on each category of urban road network on which this paper represents the demand of traffic signs information. This paper puts much effort on discussing the selection and location of traffic signs at each level of nodes under the principle of traffic flow smoothness considering the road node classification based on the road network layout. Finally, this paper makes a case study on Chang'an Road in Xi'an city by using the above achievement and this case study proves the theory and methods presented in this paper have its feasibility.
