As a powerful computing tool, the FEM (finite element method) has important function in almost all engineering design field. The design of engine's parts is one of the fields in which the FEM firstly was applied. In the paper, in accordance with the thermal power torpedo propulsion system using HAP tri-component fuel, with the I-DEAS software, applying the CAD technology and the FEM, the research of simulation on the piston -one of key parts of engine was proceeded and the paper presented the whole analysis process of the piston including thermal analysis. In the paper, the question of the boundary condition in the complicated engineering was explored and the temperature field. the stress field and the deformation of the piston were computed and analyzed under a new kind of fuel (HAP) . At last according to the result, the paper gives some advices about the structure of the piston.Through applying the CAD software, this paper not only searches after the methods and traits of I-Deas when it is used in solve complicated engineering problems. The paper also offeres useful reference to the reliability design of engine's parts, and settles a base for realizing the CAM of the engine's parts.
