With the quickening impact of urbanization,. suburbanization and motorization simultaneously in recent years, the contradiction of traffic problems and land use become more and more serious. In order to solve the sprawl of urban area ,the concept of"compact city"was firstly came up in western countries ,which aimed to the intensive use of urban land and the good configuration of resources under the high denseness of city development."compact city"is regarded as a kind of strategy of city development model, which has profound impact on the Urban Agglomeration,city and city block. The development model of city block which is the basic unit of city is essential for the sustainable development.The paper takes compact city block as the main body of this research. First the paper analyses and summarizes the theory of"compact city"development and the outstanding experiences of it designed by foreign expert. Secondly, based on the analying the impact of"compact city"on city block, summarizes the necessity of compact model of city block; then by the analysis of the main aims of compact development of city block, probe into the strategy of compact city block plan is discoursed from four aspects, including the land use, the compound transportation plan, the landscape design, and the exploitation policy . Finally, the paper makes good practice with the strategies , combining urban design of Ring 2 Area in Wuhan.The purpose of the paper is to exert the catalyst effect of urban plan, to explore a sustainable city block development model which can promote coordinated development of urban public transport and community development, and can provide a useful way for creating a harmonious community. ?...
