The Inheritance And Development Of The Architecture Form And Timberwork Technique Of "folk Dwelling" In Jangxi And Hubei Province

Immigrants exert not only a direct influence on the local society and culture but also the forms of the architecture. Thus, this paper explores the differences in folk dwelling of Jiangxi and Hubei province on the perspective of the culture and technology transfer of immigrants. It focuses specifically on the folk dwelling units and timberwork technique so as to explain the influence that Jiangxi immigrants have brought to Hubei folk dwelling on both crafts and culture. Meanwhile, by analyzing the transfer and development in the form, structure, technology and configuration this paper attempts to describe a pedigree of the emigration passageway in folk dwelling of the two provinces. The paper consists of following four parts.Part1 provides reference for further empirical research by consulting vast documents, concluding immigrants movements background, explaining the diverse culture and custom influence and describing the geographic circumstance and historical revolutions in the joint district of Jiangxi and Hubei province.Part2 gives description, analysis and conclusion of a large sample of folk dwelling units through geological survey and mapping, upon which the thesis depends, it concludes the folk dwelling characters and types primarily by using the research methods of typology and comparative architecture.Part3 analytically compares timberwork and construction technique by the research methods of oral history, typology and comparative architecture on the basis of a great number of field surveys and references. Besides, transfer and development on specific technology in the two regions are concluded while further potential leading factors of the development are also analyzed.Part4 Rests on Part 2 and Part 3, establishes the transfer and development pedigree in theperspectiveof shaping, molding and structure by applying the"basic Type and the Evolution Type"theory. Additionally, in an effort to summarize the adaptability of folk dwelling in different circumstance and reveal the man-earth relationship reflected in it, the transfer and development of folk dwelling is discussed in the perspective of social culture.
