Jilin Province Ecosystem Service Value Estimates Study

Various types of ecosystem (forest, grassland, wetland, and so on) have not only direct values (such as providing wood, agricultural and husbandry products, etc.) but also more important functional value (such as regulating climate, maintaining water source, degenerating pollution, spreading seed and pollination, relaxation and amusement, genetic resource, scientific research value, etc.). In the course of utilization and recreation of nature, human being often puts more emphasis on direct consumption value and market value of natural resources, while ignores functional value of ecosystem which has remarkable economic value.In Jilin Province, there are many types of ecosystem where there is high service function and value. The construction of Eco-province started in 2001 in Jilin Province; in the process of the construction, assessment and pricing for ecological resource are necessary. In this thesis, one of the basic analysis methods (Cost-efficiency Analysis Method) of environmental economy was used to establish the assessment system for service value of ecosystem. The value classification system of natural resource was built up to estimate efficiency and functional value of typical ecosystems. Costanza's calculating methods for ecosystem value (such as conditional value method, cost expenditure method, market value method, shadow engineering method, opportunity cost method, alternative cost method, etc.) were adopted to establish method system for assessment and evaluation of the ecosystem value in Jilin Province. A classification system for efficiency and value of ecosystem service in Jilin Province was formed, and the real value of natural resource was revealed. The functional value of 3 typical ecosystems (i.e. Songnen grassland ecosystem in west Jilin Province, Changbai Mountain forest ecosystem in east Jilin Province, and Xianghai wetland natural reserve) was estimated. According to the annual functional value of typical ecosystems in Jilin Province, the total economic value of ecosystem efficiency in Jilin Province was assessed. Applied in strategicfield, the study result of this thesis can provide scientific evidence for construction of eco-province and conservation & management of eco-resources.
