Shandong Province Pleurocarpous Mosses

Shandong Province, located between 114°36′～122°43′E, 34°25′～38°23′N, covers an area of 157.200 km2 in east China coast, lower yellow river. It is a typical warm temperature region, and the topography, altitude, climate change is relatively little. Owing to the efforts of our predecessors, the bryophyte study of Shandong Province has achieved great development. Due to the continuous development of the bryology, many exiting systems, names and relevant professional content have undergone tremendous changes. But the bryophyte study of Shandong Province has not been able to keep up with the development pace of modern bryology. So, this study is designed to enable the bryophyte study of Shandong Province get development and progress, and then keep up with the development pace of modern bryology. At the same time, this study can provide new materials to the bryophyte study of China.Specimens of this study consists of two parts, one is the pleurocarpous mosses specimens collected from 1984 to 1992 , and the other is the pleurocarpous mosses specimens collected from 2007 to 2009, all the specimens that collected by professor Zhao Zun-tian et al. in Shandong Province are 4000 in total. Based on the indoor identification of the specimens and analysis of related references, 151 species, 2 subspecies and 5 varieties in 68 genera of 21 families were identified. Among them, 33 species, 8 genera and 2 families are reported from Shandong Province for the first time.The pleurocarpous mosses flora of Shandong Province is divided into 11 geographical elements, in which North Temperate element accounting for 36.71% and East-Asia element accounting for 36.07% make up the majority of the pleurocarpous mosses flora of Shandong Province. At the same time it also has some endemism and relationship with the pleurocarpous mosses flora of tropical and subtropical area. The result coincides with the location of Shandong Province.According to the bryological regions of China maked by Mr. Wu Pan-cheng, the pleurocarpous mosses flora of 8 regions are selected to compare with Shandong Province's. It is concluded that the pleurocarpous mosses flora of Shandong Province holds close relationship with Hebei Province's, Inner Mongolia's, Northeast China's and Qinling Mountain's, and holds far relationship with Jiuwanshan Mountain's, the Junction of Guizhou Province, Chongqing Municipalities, Hunan Province and Hubei Province's, Hengduan Mountains'and Tibet's. The result coincides with the geographical and climatic factors, and provides evidence to the bryological regions of China maked by Mr. Wu Pan-cheng.By the Weihe River– Shuhe River as the boundary, the study divides Shandong Province into two parts, East Shandong Province and West Shandong Province, and then compares the two parts'pleurocarpous mosses. It is found that the kinds of pleurocarpous mosses in East Shandong Province are richer than that in West Shandong Province. This result reflects that the maritime climate of East Shandong Province provides more favorable conditions for the growth and developmet of pleurocarpous mosses.According to the systems, names and relevant professional content of Moss Flora of China, the study conducts consequential amendment to Moss Flora of Shandong Province, and then sets the stage for the second edition of Moss Flora of Shandong Province.
