These decades, with the population boom and the technology development, the rate of changes in land usage increased dramatically, people pay more attention to resource and environmental problems that result from the land coverage, and they become the hot topics in academia. The population is the most important factor among all the human activities factors. Therefore, studying the connection between population and land usage is the main way to research the land usage changes and global changes, as well as the important foundation for regulating the relation between people and land and accelerating economic continuance development.GIS technology provides soiled supports for urban research in large amount information management, analysis and simulation. This article analyses the land usage in 1990 and 2000 in Beijing from the aspects of space clustering and the shape of history through GIS technology. The objective is to explore the time and space distribution rule in the urban land usage extension of Beijing and the connection to the population changes in time and space distribution. The main contents as follows:Making use of ArcGIS software to pick out various kinds of distribution area and transform the land usage of this decade through the dynamic monitor of the land usage chart in 1990 and 2000, we find and analyses the characters and intensities of changes. Using the fourth and fifth census information of Beijing in 1990 and 2000, this article concludes and proposes the states qu of population plots the urban area in district, analyses the change pattern of population distribution in Beijing in 1990-2000.
