The fault diagnosis and quality control system of automatic weather stations aims at solving its routine check and quality control issues. The goal of system design is to develop fault diagnosis and quality control methods through research. The realization of these methods by computer programs and project construction allows automatic weather station's routine check and data analysis to be conducted automatically instead of manually.Quality control means identification and elimination of abnormal data acquired from either routine operation or instrument malfunctions in area automatic weather station's data analysis. The analysis of the historical weather data in Xi'an area provided sufficient data for our quality control research. On the basis of our analysis, nine quality control methods for automatic weather stations were designed, analyzed, and evaluated. The application of these methods enabled automatic weather station's quality control by converting raw data into processed data.According to the general specification of automatic weather stations, certain parameters and orders set in the design of automatic weather stations are used for monitoring working status. The analysis of these parameters sent back from automatic weather stations, the first line data for solving problems, facilitates determination of working status, alarming potential malfunctions, and trouble-shooting problem causes. Through analysis of the feedback from automatic weather stations, our research on automatic weather station's fault diagnosis has elucidated the relation between trouble causes and phenomena.Historical meteorological data is fundamental to all climatology analysis. In this thesis, climate change in Xi'an area was studied by analyzing climate data of Xi'an area in the past 50 years. On the basis of our research on quality control methods of the automatic weather stations, nine reliable quality control methods were obtained to provide a comprehensive quality control methodology. By analyzing hardware and software environment of the automatic weather stations, five feasible automatic weather stations fault diagnosis schemes were developed. Based on the above two approaches, fault diagnosis and the quality control system software for the automatic weather stations was designed, developed, and put into practical use. The application of this system ended the history that Xi'an area automatic weather stations had no quality control and mannul fault diagnosis and equipment monitoring, which greatly promoted the productivity of automatic weather stations. Due to the fact that this system is based on meteorological department business flow design, it has excellent applicability, and can be used by any municipal meteorological departments. This system is well worth of further applications, and will surely facilitate modernization process of weather service in our country.
