The human society has made great progress especially in the21th centurydue to the development of science and technology with a pace and scaleincomparable by the past times which has brought about many changes inpeople’s life. Yet fast development simultaneously gives rise to a seriesof problems such as geological disasters, global warming, earthquake, typhoon, freezing weather, rainfall and so on. The increasingly extremeweather events have a huge impact on the safety of the people’s lives andproperty. Real time monitoring for weather system has efficiently improvedthe accuracy and reliability of weather forecasting strongly supportingthe decision making by government in disaster prevention and mitigationto minimise the consequences. Ground meteorological observation is animportant means to monitor the weather system and it is important and basicfor weather forecasting, climate analysis and disaster monitoring.Quality control for data from automatic weather stations is veryimportant with the development of society and technology. We have createdreal-time quality control system for automatic weather stations which hasapplied on our routin work. The scheme of quality control for data mainlyincludes methods, such as plausible value check, time consistency check, internal consistency check, history value check, spatial check, etc. Atthe same time, we have proposed new method of quality control for databased on chaos theory, the GIS technology as well as radar dynamic dataprocessing for the sequence of observations under different time scales. The results showed that quality control based on data from automaticweather stations is important for extreme weather events prevention, precise temperature forecast, the analysis on regional climate variationsand so on. The application of the data quality control system shows thatautomatic weather stations data is reliable, but there are some problems on missing and timely data.
