The organizational structure of an enterprise is an old topic and it exists from the moment when the enterprise is established. Every enterprise has to choose a specific type of organizational structure for itself. There are numerous choices available for every enterprise. However, there is no standard which can be used to classify different types of structures as good or bad because every enterprise has most suitable organizational structure for itself depending on its nature, size and management system. The transformation of an enterprise's organizational structure has to conform to the overall trend at the time and meet the needs of organization's growth. The organizational structure of early classical small enterprises was considered as flat type. This structure transformed to which is called Pyramid type after the enterprises had grown a lot bigger in size. The modern corporate system has brought fundamental changes to the top management of most enterprises:Since the 1990s, American management scientists Hammer and Kitty published the theory of Process Reengineering Revolution and a worldwide revolution on Process Reengineering started. At the same time, as the globalization of the world economy approaches, virtual organizations develop steadily day by day Today it is possible to predict that in order to adapt to the changes brought by information revolution, digitalization and network the typical organizational structure of future enterprises will be open network structure.This article is aiming at presenting a clear historic background, trajectory and future trend of the transformation of enterprises' organizational structures. It describes some general theories of organizational structure design, gives a deep discussion of some typical organizational structures and extra effort has been put into the in-depth study of Process Reengineering Revolution theory. Last but not least, the article takes the transformation of organizational structure of NP Group as example to explain that the organizational structure of an enterprise keeps transforming as the organization grows and it is vital for the organization to find a feasible organizational structure to assist its future development.
