In some developed regions, as the expansion of the scale of the airport, great increase of the passenger and freight volume and the expansion of the route network in the whole world, airport began to impact the use patterns of the peripheral areas. Such patterns began to change when the convergence and proliferation effect is strengthened. This change influences the economics and the industrial structure of the peripheral airport. Airport is gradually integrating with the neighboring region. Thus it evolves into a region with highly centralized economic, eventually into an economy region with self-organizing power—which is called aerotropolis.Firstly this paper analyses the international success of aerotropolises, By comparison analysis, this paper draws a conclusion of the trends and experience of successful aerotropolises. Then this paper introduces the concept of the aerotropolis, summarizes the theory. What's more, this paper propose the relevant theory traffic location to explain the causes of Aerotropolis. Combining the two typical domestic airports' aerotropolis—the capital international airport and the new Kunming airport, this paper makes a recommendation on the two airports' existing problems.Finally, in response to the existing problems of China's aerotropolis development, this paper comes up with strategies and recommendations: the planning of aerotropolis development should be unified with the regional development. Planning should be before the airport's construction, according to the actual situation. Planning should consider the aerotropolis rolling phased development model. The structure of the aerotropolis should be compatible with the airport zoning functions. Aviation logistics should be developed vigorously. At the growth stage, Aerotropolis should vigorously develop the headquarters. The government where the aerotropolis is located should consult with the airport, so as to identify the common patterns of coordinated development. The enterprises should raise the innovation capability. The governments should propose some initial policy system.
