Top managers especially Chief Executive Officer(CEO) are core resources in a company,to properly and accurately evaluate their position value is of vital importance to both the company and those top managers.Mercer's IPE or Hay Group's Guide-Chart Profile,well-known as ones of Points method,are very popular and widely used in evaluating the job positions by many companies,typically by those top 500 companies of the world.These methods can accurately indicate relative values of various job positions within an organization,in aspects of either reliability or discrimination,however,they can't significantly discriminate the differences of position values of top managers especially those of subsidiary CEOs within a group company.First of all the paper reviews updates and achievements of researches on compensable factors and job evaluation tools with supporting theories related;then follows the main part to bring in the case of position evaluation in SGD group company,and to analyze the contribution and deficiency of present job evaluation tools.Basis on the study of selecting and weighting of compensable factors for subsidiary CEOs within a grope company,the paper introduces an 8-factor evaluation tool which were deduced from three dimensions i.e.business scale, operational complexity and contribution of subsidiaries.Finally the paper presents the three-year practice of 8-factor evaluation tool and revisory amendment to this tool.The contribution of this paper is that the position values of subsidiary CEOs with a group company can be comprehensively measured and weighted by an adequate 8-factor evaluation tool which takes strategic elements such as industry complexity,competition,as well as geographical locations into consideration.The successful establishment and practice of 8-factor evaluation tool in SGD may inspire people who are facing the same problem better and easier to find proper means for troubleshooting.
