Study On The Countermeasures For Industrial Development Of Chinese Yam In Nanping City, Fujian Province

Nanping City of Fujian Province has a sound ecological environment and rich natural resources. Meanwhile, Nanping City is the main agricultural area and Chinese yam growing area of the province, which has a long history of growing Chinese yam and good reputation for the high quality of its Chinese yam production. As the raise of people's living standards, the demand of Chinese yam is becoming greater. At present, Napping City is transferring from traditional agriculture to modern agriculture. Developing agriculture with local characteristics is one of the effective ways to promote the development of modern agriculture. The objectives of the study are to explore the ascendancy and weakness for industrial development of Chinese yam in Nanping City and provide some countermeasures to serve decision-making.The main contents of the study include: analyzing the strength for the industrial development of Chinese yam in Nanping City; analyzing the weakness for industrial development of Chinese yam in Nanping City; raising general train of thought and countermeasures for the industrial development of Chinese yam. Such as literature review, case study and survey on the spot research methods were employed. Interviewing and questionnaires were used to collect the concerning data. The results of investigation indicated that the main ascendancy for industrial development of Chinese yam in Nanping City includes: the excellent natural conditions, the sound basic social-economic conditions, the great demands for Chinese yam. The main constraints for industrial development of Chinese yam include: farmers are not organized properly; the commercial rate of the produce is low; scientific research is disjointed with production; the logistical management system is not good enough; lack of funds promote agricultural processing industry; the leading enterprises are not powerful enough. The guideline for industrial development of Chinese yam in Nanping City is as follows: specialization in production; mechanization in growing and processing; socialization in providing technological services; integrating production with marketing. The general train of though is as follows: establishing standardized production bases; adopting interest-connection mechanism on production; forming an industrial development production chain; developing both domestic and foreign markets. The countermeasures for industrial development of Chinese yam include:"Nanping mechanism play a full role; improving interest-connection mechanism; constructing production bases; increasing the market competitiveness of the produce; optimizing investment environment.The main conclusions of the study are as follows: (1) Industrial development of Chinese yam will be a break through on the development of modern agriculture with local characteristics; (2) It is necessary to adopt market-oriented policy for industrial development of Chinese yam in Nanping City;(3) It is necessary to take more studies on deep processing technologies of Chinese yam in order to increase social- economic benefits.
