An Analysis Of The Coincidence Between Urbanization And Economic Development In China

Since the reform and open policy lunched, China has made remarkable achievements with economic development speeding up.During the past thirty years, China had achieved a growth miracle with an average annual 9.8percent GDP growth.GDP world ranking raised from No.10 to No.3,only behind the United States and Japan.Per capita GDP raised from 381 U.S. dollars to 2460 U.S. dollars.Over the same period of economic development,all kinds of socialistic projects carried out at the same time.Politics,economy,culture,science and education were flourishing. People's living standards had made earth-shaking changes,our country's overall national strength continued to grow.Urbanization,as an impointant index of economic development,speeded up.In 1978,our country's urbanization rate was only 17.9 percent,it climbed up to 44.9 percent with an average 0.9 percent till 2007.Urban area and population increased gradually. Along with high-speeded development ,a good many problems arised due to the lack of coincidence between urbanization and economy development which blocked the economy's sustained and health development.The coordination between urbanization and economic development has been an urgent problem in China's economic development.The paper begins with the co-ordinated theory of urbanization and economic development,chooses typical indexes which represents coordination,analyzes the status quo of our country's urbanization and economic development,summarizes the coordination constraints and then puts forward the suggestions according to China's situation in order to advance mutual developments of urbanization and economic development.The first part introduces the significance of the topics,research at home and abroad,research ideas and the paper's structure.The second part carries out a brief review of coordination theory in urbanization and economic development that establishes the theory base for further analysis and research.Firstly,we educe the concept"coordination between urbanization and economic development"from the other two concepts"urbanization"and"economic development".Secondly,we choose five typical indexes which represent coordination according to the concepts and ground for the analysis framework conformation in the second part.Again,we introduce phase rule of urbanization,the model of moderate urbanization and the suitable rate of urbanization in different economic stages(different GDP) under the coordination which propose the referenced standard for the coordination analysis followed.Finally,we introduce two models and adverse effects of excessive urbanization and lagged urbanization due to lack of coordination.The third part bases on the theory above,uses the above-mentioned indexes and the relevant data,combines the history of China's urbanization and economic development,compares the urbanization rate with economic development,the rate of industrialization,industial structure and employment structure,makes transverse comparison between China's urbanization and economic development situation and makes vertical comparison in different years with ourseves.Urbanization and economic development will inevitably cause the labor force flow from rural area to urban area,industrial structure and social system adjustments must carry out at the same time in order to absorb the new urban employed population.We must broke kinds of system limits which are bad for smoothing urbanization and economic development,make great efforts in developing the tertiary industry,promote the mutual acceleration of urbanization and economic development.It also analyzes the restrictive factors to the coordination of urbanization and economic development.The paper says consider that there are many factors restricting the coordination which exist in different layers such as system,economy,industry and so on.In system aspect,the existing unreasonable land system and strict household registration system greatly limits the population tranfer in urbanization,hinder the smooth progress of urbanization.The imperfect social security system can't eliminate transferred people's worries after they lost land.and indirectly limits population movements.In economy aspect,the lagging of infrastructure which is the material foundation and prerequisite of cities'living and developing greatly slow down the pace of urbanization.The unsound investment and financing system and lack of credit support has become a bottleneck that constrains urbanization and economic development.Because of insufficient funds,accelerate the pace of urbanization has become empty talk.In industry aspect,the existing industrial structure upgrades slow,it cannot adapt to accelerated urbanization process and fully absorb the labor force flowing from countries to cities and towns during urbanization.That not only constrains the speeding up of urbanization,the upgrading of industrial structure and the reducing of energy consumption,but also reduce the pace and quality of economic development.The fourth part proposes countermeasures which can improve the coordination of urbanization and economic development.The main suggestions are as follows: Strengthen infrastructure construction in order to lay a good foundation for the coordination of urbanization and economic development; Reform of the existing land policy and the household registration system,break through its restrictions to the population movement in urbanization and accelerate the pace of urbanization;perfect the social security system, expand the coverage of social security and enhance the protection intensity in order to improve urbanization and economic development;Adjust industrial structure and the way we consume energy,make great efforts to develop the tertiary industry, enhance the industry's absorbing capacity to labor force,reduce the energy consumption, promote sustainable economic development;perfect investment and financing system and increase credit support,ensure the funding sources of urbanization and economic development; enhance the awareness of environmental protection and resource conservation,improve the quality of economic development in order to lay a good foundation for economic and social development.
