In recent years, with people’s attention to urbanization gradually increase, our government also issued a series of corresponding policies and measures to promote the urbanization process. Urbanization is the inevitable stage of economic development, is also the inevitable result of economic development to a certain stage. Economic development is closely related to the urbanization process, according to the historical law of the urbanization construction and development, the urbanization construction and economic development must to be coordinated. With the deepening reforms of China’s economic system, the economic development enters to the high growth stage, and the urbanization construction also has been strengthened. But China’s economy and urbanization construction is not always reaching a stage of good coordination, many problems arising as a result of the incoordination. The coordination between economic development level and urbanization has been an urgent problem in China’s economic construction. Studying the coordinated development between the both is helpful to achieving the harmony.Based on 31 provincial-level administrative units in China for evaluation objects and using the original data in the year of 2012 of Statistical Yearbook to construct the evaluation index systems of the economic system and the urbanization system respectively, this thesis gives the index weights of each system of the units with the Principal Component Analysis Method and their comprehensive evaluation scores with the TOPSIS method. The comprehensive evaluation scores of the economic system in the eastern part is good, followed by the middle part, the western part is worst. And significant spatial disparity in the comprehensive evaluation scores of the urbanization system. On this basis, the thesis then calculates and ranks the coordinated development degrees of the economic system and the urbanization system of China. From the obtained results, the coordination of urbanization construction and economic development of the 31 provincial administrative units in 2012 shows the main features as follows:generally low in the level of coordinated development, most of the 31 provincial administrative units falling into the type of transitional reconciliation; significant spatial disparity in coordinated development types.Finally, this thesis analyzes the main factors influencing the coordinated development of China’s urbanization and economy, which include the urban infrastructure construction, the rationality of industrial structure, the household registration management system and the investment and financing system, etc. The thesis also puts forward relevant countermeasures, so as to promote the coordinated development of the two. The main suggestions are as follows:Strengthen the urban infrastructure construction in order to lay a good foundation for the development; Adjust the industrial structure and make great efforts to develop the tertiary industry; Reform the existing household registration management system in order to improve the urbanization development; Perfect the investment and financing system, ensure the funding sources of the economic development.
