China is the largest pork production country. Since 1972, the pork output of our country has always been the 1st in the world. In 2006, the pork output is 51.972 million tons, accounting for 50.1% of the world pork output. The figure also occupies 64.5% of our country's total meat output which is 80.514 million tons. Pork is also the main meat source of our people's food,and the per capita share of pork is 39.5kg in our country. Meanwhile, the swine industry is also an important source of the farmers'income in our country. In 2006, the average amount of pork which one person sells in rural families is 34.44kg, whereas the amount of mutton is 3.12kg and beef is 3.07kg. From the macro view, the development of our swine industry has a great influence on promoting the economy, balancing the supply and demand of agricultural products, and adjusting fiscal subsidiary and taxation. Due to the great significance of the pork, it is necessary to do some profound research on the swine industry.From the view of supply chain, this paper, focusing on the swine industry, does research on each sector of the pork supply chain and the operation of the pork supply chain, points out the main problem in our swine industry, and finally give measures and suggestions, so as to improve the development and management level of out swine industry, and fundamentally raising the quality of the pork supply chain.Firstly, this paper cuts the swine industry into different parts according to the supply chain and does research on each of them, pointing out that the main problems of the pork supply chain of our country is that the dispersion of it has caused the instability; there are serious food safety problems. Then,the paper puts our pork supply chain into three categories: the traditional type, the newly-developed type and the mixed type and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of each of them. The next chapter is an introduction of the advanced experiences of developed countries in swine industry. Finally, this paper gives some suggestions about how to promote the development of the pork supply chain in China.The innovation of this paper is to consider the swine industry from a rather different view, that is the view of the supply chain. Based on the combination of the industry economy and the management,the empirical study and case study,this paper does relatively systematic research and gets the basic understanding of the current situation of our port supply chain.
