With the constant development of the global economy, the retail business, one of the major businesses of the commercial banks, has upgraded value-creating ability rapidly. It plays a more and more important role in the commercial bank profits. However, how to maintain the sustainable development of the retailing business of commercial banks? This question brought the innovation of retail business to the agenda. According to the statistical analysis on the retail business of both the international and domestic commercial banks in recent years, this paper comes to the conclusion that the retail business innovation of commercial banks is an important means to upgrade the value-creating ability, foster the core competitive power and to maintain the sustainable development of the commercial banks.Based on the statistical analysis on the retail business of the commercial banks, this paper makes a definition on financial innovation and retail business innovation. It also analyzes the present research situation of retail business innovation both at home and abroad. Through the analysis on the present situation of the retail business innovation of commercial banks of China as well as the specific problems, this paper illustrates the reasons for the existing problems. According to the present situation and the specific requirement of retail business innovation of commercial banks of China, this paper puts forward the concrete contents of retail business innovation which involves system innovation, product innovation and service innovation. Based on the common principle that the retail business should insist on, this paper advances concrete principles in a creative way which involve operational mechanism and business model matches, the principle of the market and customer demand are leading, the principle of revenue covered cost and risk, the principle of original innovation and imitated innovation are both important, the principle of channels innovative winning, etc.At last, according to the contents of retail business innovation of commercial banks and the principles that should be insisted on, this paper focuses on creating an innovative environment, improving innovative system, bettering the strategic system of product protection, fostering the innovative talents and innovative risk management system, it explores the countermeasures that answer for the retail business innovation of commercial banks and analyzes the relations of the above countermeasures.It proceeds from actual conditions of the retail business innovation of commercial banks, this paper, on the premise of improving the innovation contents and principles, studies on innovative strategies which are operable and have a practical meaning. The corresponding innovative countermeasures are proposed combining the concrete cases of the retail business innovation of commercial banks.
