There are many electric kettle manufacturers, so the competition is very fierce . Under the trend of rapid changes in market demand, rapid technological updating, whether electric kettle production enterprises own the ability of introducing new products with fast, high-quality and low-cost, has become the key factor to the success or failure of enterprises. Survey showed that in the small electric appliance enterprises, who produce electric kettle, about 70 percent of the R & D projects exceed the estimates progress, the average production of the new project delivery time beyond the originally planned 20% to 50%, and electric kettle R&D project's development costs exceed more than 90 percent of the budget.On the other hand, quality is the life of any enterprise. There will be no market without quality, without market there will be no economic efficiency, and then new products' research and development will lose its significance. Moreover, the use of electric kettle directly relates with the consumers' life safety and health. If only try our best to reduce the cost and shorten the development cycle, there would be very serious consequences because of the negligence. Even it would lead to returns, recalls and claims to the enterprise and cause great economic and reputation losses.This paper will relate the new-Guangdong Electric Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to the new-electrical) reality, study comprehensively of the "new-electrical" electric kettle R & D management process to find factors which affect their progress and quality and costs problems of R & D. Through the analysis of the problems we explore new model of Lean R & D management.Electric kettle R & D projects have different management mode in different enterprises. The universally shared features are: low profits of product sales, few applications of high-end technology .Products should be sold to the different adaptive R & D cycle short. The success of products to a large extent depends on the development of products structural design mould. R & D process takes a number of different functions sector.One of the management features is the assessment and control of designed input. Development-related personnel should be organized to review the design input, to review whether the input of data in the client / product specifications and requirements are reasonable, such as whether to meet the accreditation .At the same time, make clarification and resolution to the requirements that are imperfect, vague or conflicting.Second is the assessment and control of designed output. Managers should organize relevant departments to examine the new product structure, the design specifications and to audit assessment of the mold assessment process. And only after these confirmation, the production starts.Third, it is the control of pilot production and verification of new products. After the completion of trial, organize production and assess assembly process; organize performance testing and evaluate the function of products. Arrange testing for delivery certification, food hygiene, ROHS and lifetime. After passing the assessment of qualified or rectification, it can be put into production.In accordance with the basic principles of Process Reengineering and the characteristics of electric kettle R & D projects, we conducted Process Reengineering. Adopting new development processes has the following advantages: avoid mistakes in the screening of new product idea; using of simulation technology, the management of overall design of new products is more stringent; undertaking business analysis, testing marketed trial production ensured the profits of new products, and made R & D guide the market.Enterprises improve efficiency and cut costs to enhance the competitiveness of enterprises, and this is the so-called lean production, which is from the perspective of production to consider; on the other hand, making rapid formation through leading edge technology to improve product value, this is Lean R & D, which is the intrinsic business growth. The so-called R & D Lean, obviously concerned about the advanced, and then is certainly concerned about the quality of the products, and product development cycles, coupled with the cost of product development. Can be found in-depth analysis, we are concerned about the"efficiency"and "effectiveness" appearance, but the source of our concern is "innovative" and "optimization."R & D and innovation of electric kettle, in essence, is a technical process which uses knowledge and methods for creative activities. There are two types of this process: one is the innovative based on concept design, which adds the value through the mastery of knowledge. And the second is the innovative based on research methods, it is the combination of the innovative technology and computer-aided (CAD, PRO-E) technologies. This technology is the integration of Theory of Inventive Problem Solving, ontology, modern design methodology, semantic processing technology and computer software technology, which is brought by computer-aided technologies.To sum up, these two types of innovation mode, one is suitable for the new knowledge organization and new knowledge comes from life needs and market research; the other is the use of methodologies, from the knowledge of relations and semantic analysis ontology technology, coupled with IT technology, the two broad categories of ability to form a system .In the importation of a problem, the entire system can output the optimized options.There is a relationship between R&D innovation and the life cycle of product. In the same period it is a concrete manifestation of the new product's development process. The traditional R & D model is different from the Lean R & D. Traditional R & D model is developed using traditional serial model which is the physical prototype based on the drawings. Lean R & D is a parallel mode, its research and development means digital prototype, based on three-dimensional modeling, and uses simulation-driven design to improve.In my efforts, in March 2007, the "new-type electrical appliances" introduced the "3-D animation Simulation-aided design" software and "experimental animation and simulation of management platform." It maximally improves the design quality and efficiency and makes the audit and inspection work of design more effective.This study is based on the significance of the R & D Lean .Through the use of engineering simulation, technical innovation and quality management technology, which are the three key technologies of Lean developed, we can control the electric kettle R & D costs, progress and production failure rate, to shorten the product development cycle and reduce the cost of products and reduce the adverse goods products production rate.These three technologies are in the product development process throughout all aspects of the product in the course of evolution, each having their own unique value. Engineering simulation, is through quantitative analysis of technology to drive product development, and to improve their products offering significant optimization; technological innovation, is through qualitative analysis to expand R & D thinking, and provides significant innovative solutions to the product ; quality management, is through Statistical analysis technology to upgrade the quality of research and development, and makes the technical value added by simulation technology and innovation technologies become more valuable to the products.Through the research, development and project management will enable the staff to effectively utilize resources, shorten the development cycle of the electric kettle, and with a minimum number of experiments to find the best product design / technology conditions. Also guarantying the quality of products, it will enable enterprises to achieve new product development faster and more efficiently, and to continuously reduce R & D costs and extend product's life cycles so that companies can be invincible in the fierce competition.Compared to the traditional new-company R & D mode, Lean R & D management model, from the perspective of project management, aims to shorten the development cycle, and to have effective management in terms of time, quality and cost as well as dealing with the related extend issues.
