Study On Well Logging Technology Commercialization

Well logging is one of the most important engineering technologies for petroleum exploration and production. It is applied to the whole life-span of oilfield. The development of well logging technology underwent four periods, i.e. analog logging, digital logging, computerized logging and imaging logging. Currently, there are six technical series, namely conventional logging, imaging, reservoir monitoring, logging while drilling, log interpretation and evaluation, and logging data processing software.The network logging appears to be the logging technology development trend. Three major international oilfield service companies (Schlumberger, Halliburton and Bake Hughes) have built-up their operating system of integrating R&D, manufacturing and logging service. The logging equipment of the three major logging companies represents the highest level of the contemporary era. The market share of the three companies in international logging service market reaches as high as 70%.Basically, China's logging technology and equipment meets the need of petroleum exploration and production. Technology innovation system has been established.Chinese logging sector has built-up certain innovation capability. But, on the whole, china's logging technology is lagging behind the world advanced level, especially in the aspects of key equipment and high-end technology. With the development of exploration and production, the logging technology in CNPC (China National Petroleum Corporation Co.) is facing more and more challenges.CNPC is focusing on serial logging equipment development and commercialization. CNPC endeavors to organize creative activity in terms of research, development, and application in the logging sector.This paper reviews the logging technology development modes; analyzes the domestic and foreign market demands on logging technology; illustrates the whole process of R&D, manufacturing, commercialization and application; poses the existing problems; and makes suggestions for further development of CNPC's logging technology.
