As China joined in the WTO, market-economy has made a large progress. The competition in retail trade became more and more violent, especially in supermarket. In the situation, how to make use of the information to make the enterprise more competitive is an important point. Therefore, making an arrangement and analysis to the information to support the enterprise is an urgent problem of each supermarket.This thesis introduces the development background of our country's supermarket, analyzes the problem we face and makes a suggestion leading into data mining to enlarge the competition of supermarket. The article expounds the theory of data mining and data storehouse, analyzes the characteristic of supermarket data based on its trade feature and studys the applicability of data mining in supermarket from the side of commodity, customer and selling. On the base of data mining, data storehouse and the characteristic of the data, it makes an analysis and designation of data mining model which is suitable for the supermarket. The article brings forward building a system based on data mining, analyzes the whole model, function design and the use of data mining model and makes a further analysis of the core--data storehouse. The last part of article makes a demonstration for data mining model, analyzes the data based on a large supermarket and obtains some useful knowledge to support the management of this supermarket.The research of this problem supplies a new thought of increasing the competition of supermarket, makes a beneficially practical trying of data mining to make efficient and further using of supermarket data.
