It is inevitable that different cultures conflict and interact with each other when communication among people in the world becomes easily accessible. Besides, the thriving of multinational corporations also highlights the relativity between culture and economy. This new phenomenon provides an opportunity for scholars to explore culture from a new perspective. Nowadays scholars in the field of cultural study prefer to take social organizations, instead of nation, as their research basis to study cultural differences.It attracts Western economists'attention to Eastern corporate management due to the fast growth of Japanese economy and remarkable achievements made by Four Asian Tigers in economic world. Through their investigations on corporations for many years they have found out that there is an essential element in Eastern corporate management which is now called as corporate culture by Western scholars. It was totally neglected by Western management theory before 70s.'He'spirit (harmony) and competitiveness in corporate culture will definitely reflect the different values in Eastern and Western culture.At present lots of scholars try to establish a model for successful communication or management in multinational corporations under the background of cultural conflict. However if we want to make the most of cultural interaction for business end, we should know the mechanism through which cultures interact with each other. For this purpose we should pay more attention to the analysis of phenomena related with cultural interaction.The paper attempts to explore the roots for the formation of'he'spirit and competitiveness and also the function of'he'spirit and competitiveness in business activities in order to explain that: (1) cultural conflict is unavoidable; (2) cultural synergy or development follows its own orbit.Now more and more scholars accept the view that culture is a product of interaction between human society and nature. And the characteristics of culture were greatly influenced by the surrounding conditions particularly during its early stage of development. Being based on the theories of Hall's high/low cultural context and Hofstede's cultural dimensions, the paper is going to explore several aspects as following:·The historical roots for the formation of'he'spirit and competitiveness (including the causes in geology, economy and political infrastructure)·The significance of'he'spirit in Chinese culture·The significance of competitiveness in Western culture·The interaction of'he'spirit and competitiveness·Analysis of phenomena concerned with cultural synergy in corporate culture...
