To speed up the development of container transport from Yangtze River to Yang Shan deep-water Port is one of the important measures to implement the State strategic policy of establishing Shanghai International Shipping Center as the Dragon Head and enhancing the economic development along the Yangtze River. The construction and operation of Yang Shan deep-water Port will bring about revolutionary changes to the full system of the Yangtze River river-ocean combined container transport, and the international container transport system will be formed composed of Yang Shan Port, feeder vessels, feeder ports, channels and cargoes. With the guide of strategic management theory, the dissertation works out the strategic plan and optimization for the future combined transport mode from Yangtze River to Yang Shan Port and to realize the best combination of feeder ports and lines by feasibility study, SWOT analysis and cost minimum model, and to explore the most optimized strategic development pattern for the combined transport between Yangtze River and Yang Shan Port.The dissertation is mainly divided into three parts. Part One mainly makes the analysis of the history and development of Yangtze River container transport, and the appraisal of the effect of the construction of Yang Shan Port on the present Yangtze River transport mode. Part Two mainly discusses the future "Twice Transfer" transport mode and makes the preliminary selection and comparison among the feeder ports with the suitable "Twice Transfer" conditions. Part Three adopts the cost minimum model, comparing Yangtze River-Yang Shan Port transfer mode and discussing the specialty of the dangerous cargo transport along River Xiang and River Gan. Finally the measures and proposals are put forward for the development strategy of Yangtze River-Yang Shan Port transport mode.
