Production line balancing is an important method for the designing and reorganization of production processes for the manufacturing enterprises. According to the line balancing, it consists of assigning operations to workstations in a production line in such a way satisfying the precedence relations.Based on the summarization of the existing solutions and the analysis of the deficiencies of present methods, a new method based on simulation optimization for the problem combined the industrial engineering, heuristic method and the method of visualization simulation together is proposed in this paper.Firstly, the process analysis and the work study are used to determine two basic data of line balancing: the precedence relations and the work time of basic work elements. Secondly, this paper presents a new double-objective improved particle swarm optimization algorithm with the aim of minimizing smoothness index and minimizing the number of workstations. Thirdly, the visualization simulation of production line system is discussed in the paper. The methods based on Petri net and on the construction-recurring are used for modeling. At last, based on the Huiling Automobile Parts Company's project which is named "Reorganization of the Workshop Facilities Designing and Production Process", the application of simulation-optimization line balancing method is proposed.
