The Study On Six Sigma Management Applied In Logistic Companies

With the development of globalization and China entered WTO, companies in China face severe competition; Therefore, quality and speed are indispensable, especially in logistics companies. Six Sigma is a scientific method to make logistics activities more efficient and better quality, realize the mission of"higher level, further speedy, more competitive"in logistics companies.Much like many thoughts and methods that applied in manufacturing area, such as JIT, large-scale make to order, Agile Manufacturing, Six Sigma method has gradually been used in logistics companies. With the successfully using the Six Sigma method in manufacturing and service areas, some specific and effective means are introduced into logistics management, e.g. customer service management, logistics process management, logistics quality control, logistics cost management, logistics performance management and supply chain management. Because of the common ground of logistics and Six Sigma, the Six Sigma method can be accepted by logistics management, this can be proved by the following facts: both logistics and Six Sigma are customer focus, they regard the customer focus as the most important; both pay more attention to processing, that is manufacturing managers control the production process rather than checking finished products in order to assure high quality; both implement efficient and cost-effective policy in management.The paper reviews the process of six Sigma development, summarizes theories and experience related to Six Sigma , defines concept of the 6σscientifically, and points out the advantages of Six Sigma in term of management, talks about the breakthrough of Six Sigma in logistics company management; Study and research methods are paid more attention in this paper, this paper gives some methods of how to introduce the Six Sigma method into logistics companies, these methods include DMAIC method and DFSS method, so the paper makes sense to develop creative management or to introduce advanced management methods and new ideas in logistic companies.
