Along with the acceleration of competition among the enterprises, more and more staff managers and scholars recognized that the employee engagement was another important source of gaining competitive advantage for the enterprises. Therefore employee engagement theory began to flourish abroad and also attract domestic scholars'attention. Setting the Chinese workers as the research object, the thesis fully used the references in and out of China and verified the influence that demography variables has on the self-esteem and employee engagement and its structural elements and the relations between self-esteem and employee engagement with questionnaire and SPSS. Finally the thesis puts forward some suggestions for the staff managers based on the research results.First, the author explained the thesis's purpose and significance and referred to and generalized the reference home and abroad; secondly the author brought out the thesis's theoretical base and research conceptualization.Then the thesis focused on the conceptualization and hypotheses, using questionnaire survey and statistic analysis, verified the influence that demography variables has on the self-esteem and employee engagement and its structural elements and the relations between self-esteem and employee engagement.The research results demonstrate that gender,education,position and hiring time all partially have significant difference on self-esteem and employee engagement; Further more, the self-esteem all have positive correlation with employee engagement,exhaustion,cynicism and professional efficiency.Finally the thesis made a conclusion and pointed out its limitations and gave some suggestions for the enterprise's staff manager; also the thesis presented a future research direction.The research has theoretical and practical importance. On the one hand it broadens and deepens domestic research about self-esteem and employee engagement. It would enrich and perfect the theory of employee engagement. On the other hand the research would improve the enterprises'managers'importance on the variable and human resource ability and employees'performance.
