Saral Sarkar is an important representative of eco-socialism. In the1920’s, in the face of drastic changes in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe and German Green Party movement into a predicament of new social background, Saral Sarkar combine the fate of socialism with the green movement and the future of ecological socialism ideal. Saral Sarkar inherits Marx doctrine of Marx, including many of the ideas of the Frankfurt school, put forward his own theory of ecological socialism and strategy, the theory of socialist theory essentially belongs to the Marx family. This thesis is based on the interpretation of the monograph "Eco-socialism or Eco-capitalism? A Critical Analysis of Humanity’s Fundamental Choices" in which Saral Sarkar elucidates the theory of eco-socialism in detail, elaborates its main contents, presents the original form of Saral Sarkar’s ecological thought. The key of Saral Sarkar’s thought is to proceed from the growth limit this paradigm, to explore the human society faces the crisis of ecological environment. He considers whether capitalism or socialism, as long as in,"the development logic of growth", will eventually lead to ecological crisis and social crisis. So, he thought the Soviet collapse is not the failure of socialism, but a collapse of capitalist growth logic and logic of consumption of the abduction of socialism. Capitalism, including ecological capitalistic improvement, is essentially a "growth" seekers, therefore is unable to solve ecological problems. On this basis, he puts forward only based on a steady-state economy, low energy consumption and new ecological ethics on the limitation. His ecological socialism advocates steady-state economy and zero growth; he had underestimated the ecological consciousness of the working class and the general public in capitalist countries, and he views that it should rely more on the knowledge class to achieve ecological socialism, these are not realistic. He pessimistically consider that the effect of science and technology and creativity in environmental and resource protection, he advocate the use of low technology and small scale technology. This opinion is contrary to the laws of history. The ecological socialism thought of Saral Sarkar has very strong reference to our study of socialism and ecological problems. He pointed out that the ecological problems are political problems, if not well solved, it will lead to political crisis, the collapse until a social system; he put forward that we can not blindly pursue economic growth, otherwise, the consequences are unbearable to contemplate, which are such as be filled with wisdom; he put forward that socialism should be ecological, ecological socialism must be democratic, while working in the shape of the ecological consciousness and environmental moral person. These questions are thought-provoking.The innovation of this paper is:firstly, the author summarize the three aspects of the theoretical of Saral Sarkar’s eco-socialism, is to add a new bright spot for Marx’s theory of the family, is to add new content for the theory of socialism, is to add a new view for ecological civilization; secondly, the author writer also pointed out the limitations of the theory in three aspects, which is Saral Sarkar denied the development potential and the science and technology creative, Utopia of economic contraction strategy, denial of the working class revolutionary; thirdly, the author writer combined with the actual construction of ecological civilization in China, summarized us the four points from the thought of Saral Sarkar:the environment problem is political issue, we have to keep economic growth under control, to expand public participation, environmental moral order to rebuild; fourthly, in the process of research, the author writer use some new materials, including its writings which has not been translated into Chinese, and some foreign comment and information, which expand the field of vision about Saral Sarkar’s thought.
