As a result of the increasing improvement of consumer’s requirements on the aesthetics andcomfort of jeans, fit jeans with the function of lifting hips become more and more popular.Therefore, it is important to research on the influence of jean patterns on its design. Based on therequests of enterprise, this study was aimed to optimize the fit jeans pattern. The structural factorsinfluencing on the lifting effect on hips was firstly researched, and the mathematics models interms of the relationships between factors and the fitting effects on one hand, and the pressure onlip on the other hand, were subsequently established, providing the scientific basis for thedesigning process on butt lifting jeans and the improvement of comfort of pants.Firstly, questionnaire data of298female consumers in Shanghai was statistically analyzedusing SPSS software. Results demonstrated that consumers tended to give the preference to thejeans with moderate elasticity and pay more attention to its comfort. Moreover, most femalesexpected to purchase the jeans with fitting effect. As a consequence, fit Jeans with the function oflifting wearers’hips have a great market potential.Secondly, characteristic parameters of217young females aged between18and25inShanghai were collected by Martin measurement. Principal component analysis method wasemployed to confirm the four impacting factors on the shape of female’s lip, viz., the height factor,the hip circumference factor, the width and thickness of hip factor, and the angle factor. Theessential parameters of human body, including height, crotch length, waistline, hip thickness andwidth, hip angle were extracted by Pearson correlation analysis. The linear regression mathmodels of the related control variable were established. According to the ratio between hipthickness and width and hip angle, K-means clustering methodology was used to divide the shapesof youth females’ hips into nine types, providing the essential data and theoretical foundation forthe designing process of pants pattern.Thirdly, the optimization on the fitness of pants patterns was carried out before the evaluationon the lifting effect on hips. According to analysis on the relationship between female hipcharacters and jeans pattern, back crotch angle and loose quantity at hip-line were extracted asfactors influencing effect lifting butt. In order to reduce the number of jeans sample plates afterfactor combination and solve the problems in terms of continuous fitting-induced feeling and visual fatigue, factor value of loose quantity at hip-line was skillfully obtained through differentsubjects wearing the same jeans, which improves experiment efficiency and accuracy of subjectiveassessment.Fourthly, the evaluation results on the fitting effect demonstrated that the fitness of pants wasenhanced with the decrease of loose quantity of hip-line. However, the relationship models ofback crotch angle and hip angle would be different with loose quantity at hip-line. Thismathematic relation models could help jeans companies to design the parameters of fitting jeanspattern. By Pearson correlation analysis, it was found that correlation of loose quantity at hip-lineand space between two hip embossments was significantly positive,which is as the same ascorrelation of back crotch angle and the height of hip embossment. And then the followingmathematic models were built by stepwise regression,viz. space between two hip embossments=0.099*loose quantity at hip-line, the height of hip embossment=0.041*back crotch angle,increment of hip embossment height=0.041*back crotch angle. These models would helpcompanies to quickly calculate fitting effect value based on jeans pattern parameters.Finally, according to the partial correlation analysis, the hip pressure was positivelycorrelated with loose quantity of hip circumference. Pressure above hip convex point upperand hip angle showed significantly negative correlation relationship.Abdominal pressure, hipconvex point pressure, pressure below hip convex point had no significant correlation with hipangle. According to the step-wise regression analysis method to create the following mathematicalmodel: hip convex point pressure=-0.068*loose quantity at hip-line+1.012kpa; abdominal pressure=-0.155*loose quantity at hip-line+1.426kpa; pressure below hip convex point=-0.049*loose quantity at hip-line+0.838kpa; pressure above hip convex point=-0.037*hiplobe+1.755kpa. This regression model could easily calculate and evaluate the pressure, comfortand fitting effect of the different parts when subjects tried on the jeans, which provides scientificguidance for companies to design fit jeans well, and also provides reference for consumers tochoose the suitable jeans.Based on consumer research and analysis of the human body data, mathematical modelforecasting shaping effect of fit jeans were established, which overcome the defects of traditionalexperience and repeated fitting lack of scientific basis and guidance. The results provide scientificbasis and reference for enterprise to design good fit jeans as well as for consumer to buy suitableproducts.
