As the rapid development of economy and populations, the carbon emissions areincreasing, which makes the environment worse and has caught the sight of the world.More and more countries try their best to control the increase of the carbon emissions.Carbon development has been one of the important part of the society development. As thecapital of China, the road passenger transport in Beijing is prosperous. When travelling, thevehicles will produce a lot of carbon emissions, which brings much pressure to theenvironment. So this paper aims to study the low-carbon development of the road passengertransport in Beijing. Firstly, I calculate the amount of carbon emissions of the roadpassenger transport in Beijing. Then I use the LMDI method to analyze how the factorsaffect the carbon emissions of the road passenger transport in Beijing. The results show that:(1) the carbon emissions of the road passenger transport in Beijing is increasing fastbetween2005and2012, it is0.871thousand tons, while in2012it is1.4805thousand tons.Compared to2005, the carbon emissions increase by69.98%in2012.(2)The carbonemissions produced by private cars is the main part of the road passenger transport inBeijing, accounts for70%.While the public transport accounts for20%, and the tax andother transports account for10%.(3) The increase of daily trips and the proportion of motorvehicle is the main reason for the increase of carbon emissions of road passenger transportin Beijing between2005and2010.By the method of scenario analysis, I set four scenarios to analyze the carbonemissions of the road passenger transport in Beijing. The results show that:(1) The increaseof daily trips will be the main factor which increase the carbon emissions of the roadpassenger transport in Beijing. And the trip distance is another factor, but its influence isless than the daily trips.(2)The decrease in the proportion of both motor vehicles andprivate cars and the increase in the proportion of public transportation will curb the increaseof road passenger transport in Beijing.(3)When the daily trips is40.5million people, theimprovement of the traffic modes’ structure will help save2.51million tons carbonemissions of road passenger transport in Beijing in2015; And when the daily trips is44.25million people, the improvement of the traffic modes’ structure will help save2.74milliontons carbon emissions. At last, this paper gives some recommendations about the low-carbon development ofthe road passenger transport in Beijing according to the study, Mainly based on transportation infrastructure strengthening and administrative means, economic meansusing to guide the use of private cars.
