This paper present a new design program of arm extension iron roughneck containedpipe clamp and pipe spinner which play an important role in "offshore drilling platforms tubeprocessing system".The overall program, operating type and technical parameters of thisdevise was described based on the fully research of technology-related datas of hydraulictongs and iron roughnecks. With high degree of automation machinery, iron roughneck has aclear advantage at reduce labor intensity at wellhead and reduce cost of drilling operations,enhance the safety and operational efficiency.This article discussed the present status of iron roughneck, compared the existingprogram of the major components of iron roughneck. The detail design of the Arm ExtensionIron Roughneck was done and basic parts of this device got calculation, analysis andverification based on the overall design of the offshore drilling platform. The3D model of thedevice was created with SolidWorks. The strength check and calculation of the keycomponents was realized with Simulation of SolidWorks and the overall structure of thedevice was confirmed. The3D model was imported into the dynamic simulation softwareADAMS and got the movement, velocity and acceleration curves of arm extension ironroughneck. The design of hydraulic circuit of iron roughneck mechanical system and thecombine simulation of mechanical and hydraulic was done.
