Due to excellent performance, organic resins are the major materials for formingcoating. Inorganic materials based on Si-O-Si three-dimensional structure have features ofstable performance and high strength, but the coatings made of them are brittle. In addition, higher cost also prevents their further application. In order to improve the cracking problemof inorganic materials, the strength and thermal stability of the prepared composite coatings, enhance the compatibility between organic and inorganic components, a particular methodis used to synthesis the composite resin by combine the organic and inorganic componentswith chemical bond and physical force. The dispersion between organic and inorganiccomponents is excellent, even achieves the level of molecule. The properties of the preparedcomposite materials are tailored and constructed to improve overall performance of coatingsor introduce the new features. It is a new way to prepare and develop of new paints withhigh performance. In this paper, different composite resins were synthesized and the functional paintsbased on these composite resins were prepared. Tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) which couldprovide Si-O-Si three dimensional network was used as the inorganic precursor andγ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550), γ-methacryloyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH570)were used as the “chemical bridge” to synthesize the organic-inorganic hybrid resin bysol-gel method. In addition, silicone resin with Si-O-Si inorganic groups was used to modifycommon epoxy resin with KH550and the paint was prepared. In this paper, the functionalanticorrosive paints based on these composite resins were characterized by means of FT-IR,TG, contact angle, UV accelerated aging, the electrochemical test and so on. Theperformance of different prepared paints was studied. It was found that with the catalysis of hydrochloric acid at60℃, tetraethyl orthosilicatewas used as the raw material, the organic-inorganic hybrid resins were prepared bycontrolling the pH value, the amount of ethanol, water, organic solvent, various couplingagents, and organic resin. The properties of the composite resins and coatings were testedafter the resins and coatings were cured. It was found the hybrid resins showed uniform andtransparent and no cracks were observed from the coating film when the content of organic component was higher than inorganic component. The mechanical properties like adhesion, hardness, impact resistance, flexibility could reach the level of practical application. The TGanalysis and the paint heat treatment tests showed that the coating have the property ofexcellent heat resistance. The coatings have the ability of higher water repellence, acidresistance, alkali resistance, gasoline resistance, NaCl solution resistance. The corrosionresistance was excellent and the different proportion of organic component and inorganiccomponent had effect on the corrosion resistance. The artificial accelerated ageing testshowed the composite coatings had stable performance and good weather resistance.
