This study is to demonstrate the feasibility of SaiHan tara, which is located in Sunite rightbanner, Inner Mongolia, as a backup water resource. The main contents include:(1) stating landform, formation lithology, geological structure and Paleogene ground water hydrogeolo gical conditions of study area on the basis of methods including data collection, electrical sounding ground geophysical prospecting, hydr ogeological logging, hydrogeology drilling, pumping test, analysis of water samples and indoor data processing; (2) calculating water bala nceunder the current situation of defined calculation area; (3) calcu lating the groundwater allowable withdrawal evaluation based on the w ater balance calculation; (4) generalizing boundary, setting mining w ells and establishing calculation model on the basis of pumping test data, ground survey and simultaneous measurement; (5) predicting the water level declines after 1 year,5 years,10 years,15 years and 20 years when mining 1000 m3 of groundwater each day under the conditio n of status quo, according to the mining well arrangement scheme; (6) finally, demonstrating the ground allowable withdrawal evaluation an d the degree of assurance in the water balance calculation area, and analyzing that the construction of backup water resource and the incr ease of mining 10000 m3 of groundwater each day in SaiHan tara is fea sible.
