Coalbed methane(CBM) resource evaluation information system is an important technology for quantitative and dynamic evaluation of CBM resource. It is very significant for CBM exploration and development. Selecting suitable method is crucial for establishment of the CBM resource evaluation information system according to CBM geology of study area.A lot of graphic data and attribute data are produced in the CBM exploration and development. Effective management and analysis of these data is the basis of CBM resource evaluation. GIS is a powerful software system with efficient data management and spatial analysis. Monte carlo method is used in the paper to establish CBM resource evaluation information system based on GIS.SQL Server database technology and C# programing language are used to design the CBM resource evaluation information system based on Arc GIS Engine secondary development technology according to the early design of the system. Six main functions of the system are achieved, such as the basic function, data management, graph management, spatial analysis, resource evaluation, system management, etc. It plays an important role in the effective management of CBM spatial data and attribute data, in the prediction of CBM resources and in visualization display of the results. The CBM resource is evaluated using the actual data of Luling coal mine through the system. The CBM resources of Luling coal mine are obtained under 5%, 50% and 95% probabilities. The effectivity of the system are verified through the more intuitive and more scientific of probability distribution of CBM resources. The results can provide reasonable and effective technical support for evaluation of CBM resources in Luling coal mine.
