Based on the geological characteristics of the low rank coal-bed methane of Junggar Basin and the geological data from the Tunbao coalmine in the Xiao Chao Hu coalfield,this thesis has discussed three main important elements such as the geological characteristics of coal reservoir,reservoir characteristics of coal and coal reservoir characteristics of its capping,which can generally determine the development potential of coal-bed methane.Monte Carlo method can be used to calculate the total amount and abundance of the coal-bed methane resources in Tunbao coalmine area.According to the calculations in the article,in turn,there are the total amount of 0.385×10~8 m~3 methane in the reliability of 5%and the total amount of 0.179×10~8 m~3 methane in the reliability of 50%and the total amount of 0.039×10~8 m~3 methane in the reliability of 95%.The abundance of coalbed methane resources is 0.288×10~8 m~3/km~2 in the reliability of 5%,is 0.134×10~8 m~3/km~2 in the reliability of 50%,and is 0.029×10~8 m~3/km~2 in the reliability of 95%.The multi-index comprehensive evaluation method also can be used to established a coal-bed methane resource evaluation model of Xiaocaohu coal field.According to the comprehensive evaluation in the thesis,a final outcome is worked out as the value of 0.59456 by this model,it means that the coalbed methane of the area is not conductive to develop and use,but it is a valuable conclusion for controlling and managing the methane during coal producing in future.
