An indoor pot experiment was carried out cultivating Carex cinerascens using rhizomes and young shoots to explore effects of soil moisture/ water flooded regime on rhizomatic germination, growth of young shoots and physiological features of the plants and proven response mechanisms. On the basis of field investigation and experiment, the characteristics of Carex cinerascens resources were analyzed, and the problems and countermeasures of resources’ comprehensive utilization were put forward. Result show:(1) Rhizomatic germination rate of the plant was low in severe drought and flooded conditions, and reached high rate in mild drought, where the young shoots were short. Average height and aboveground biomass, length, width, area and number of the leaves, contents of Chla, Chlb, SPAD and Chl, all of them displayed a similar trend, increasing first and then decreasing as the soil water content increased, but Chla/b ratio did a reverse trend, decreasing first and then increasing as soil water content increased.(2)The plants adapted themselves to variation of soil water content by regulating their plant size, leaf area, number of leaves and growth rate for survival. Under water stress(too much or too little), the plants raised Chla/b, maintained Car/Chl and rationalized distribution of Chla and Chlb, to guarantee normal photosynthesis process;(3) Quantitative analysis using the Gaussian Model shows that the ecological amplitude of water content for rhizomatic germination and growth of young shoots of Carex cinerascens was in the range of 4.15%-51.35%, and the optimum water content in the range of 16.22%-39.55%.(4) 45 days later, all flooded treatment grew slow or even stop, but they would not die. CAT, POD and SOD enzyme activity of flooded treatment were higher than the CK. Three enzymes activity of 1/2 flooded treatment were higher than others.(5) Flooded treatments’ rhizomes occasionally germination is conducive to stability under flooded conditions to maintain the population. Carex cinerascens have resistant react to flooding stress. Decrease the oxidation damage by high antioxidant enzyme activity allows species living in flooding condition in some degree.(6) Carex cinerascens resources are rich in Poyang Lake, having huge utilization potential, but due to the spread of schistosomiasis, weak utilization consciousness, lacking policy guidance, artificial destruction, fire disturbance, the rate of Carex cinerascens resources utilization is extremely low. Aiming at those existing problems, five suggestions were given to realize comprehensive and effective utilization. The feasibility of forage industry development was analysed.
