Analysis Transformation Of Social Civilization With Kuhn Paradigm Theory

The wheel of the civilization of human society never stops its step of development, while the history always advances in both contradiction and dialectics.The modern industrial civilization achieved great success and, following the variation of social and historical conditions, exposed its inherent deficiency, thus requiring the transformation into another form of civilization.This paper grafts the paradigm theory of Thomas Sammual Kuhn on the transformation of social civilization. By exploring the coupling relationship between the two through comparison, analysis, summarization etc., the paper finds out the theoretical support for the transformation of the civilization of the human society and further explains the historical necessity of the paradigm transformation of industrial civilization and ecological civilization, providing an altogether new theoretical perspective for demonstrating the necessity of the transformation of social civilization and the rationality of transforming from industrial civilization to ecological civilization. Based on this, the paper analyzes the transformation mechanism of human civilization paradigm according to the internal coupling relationship between the transformation structure of the paradigm theory and transformation of social civilization, sorts out the correct train of thought for building the ecological civilization applying the logical thinking of the paradigm theory of Kuhn and pertinently finds the key of ecological civilization transformation.The study basis and significance of the paper are based on the development process and law of social civilization. Because the contents covered by eachcivilization reach into each activity field of human being and, to some extent,dominate the development trend of the society, while each transformation of civilization formation in the human history means social change, the social civilization causes the universal concern of all mankind. A new civilization formation means a new paradigm. It’s the key to the success of transformation whether the civilization paradigm is rational, logically dominative, broadly convincing and widely accepted and put into practice. Although it’s now the critical period of transforming from industrial civilization to ecological civilization, it’s not the purpose of discussing the paradigm transformation of the two to eagerly refute the values created by the industrial civilization. The inherent defection of industrial civilization is embodied by the building-up ecological, environmental and resource pressure and the increasingly prominent sustainable development issue of the society. To achieve sustainable development and satisfy people’s demands for production, life and ecology, all people of the world need to rethink the values, production method, way of living and mechanism and structure of the modern industrial civilization, explore the sustainably developable way of ecological civilization of true harmony between the human being and nature as well as between the human being and the society. The ecological civilization paradigm is raised due to the beginning of failure of the industrial civilization paradigm. Meanwhile, the ecological crisis caused by the inherent limitation of industrial civilization compels it to give place to the new paradigm of ecological civilization which is more capable of solving such crisis. After all, “The replacement of instrument is a waste and is only necessary when unavoidable. The meaning of crisis lies in its indication of the time for replacement of instrument.”Historically, as two of the most important paradigms of the modern society,both industrial civilization and ecological civilization belong to two subsets in the category of social civilization formation. Guided by the paradigm theory of Kuhn, we found the proper way out for the transformation of social civilization, the conversion rules between the new and old paradigms and the logical and coupling relationship between the paradigm conversion in the paradigm theory of Kuhn and the transformation of civilization in social structure, summarized all internal elementsmeeting all paradigm conversions and determined the functions of different elements in different stages. Specifically, the staged similarity of the paradigm theory of Kuhn and transformation of social civilization are embodied in structure coupling, while the internal synchronism between the paradigm theory and transformation of social civilization are embodied in element coupling.While describing the necessity of transforming from industrial civilization to ecological civilization, this paper firstly respectively clarifies and compares the concepts asserted by industrial civilization and the concept taken by ecological civilization. From three points of view, respectively, the practical pressure of ecological crisis, the value orientation of rational awareness and the calling of the objective of sustainable development, the paper also discusses the first essentials that,in the present stage of transformation, the ecological civilization paradigm has more exuberant vitality, better problem-solving ability and closer joint with the development of human civilization than the industrial civilization paradigm, whereby the necessity of transforming from industrial civilization and ecological civilization is proven by applying the paradigm theory and the paradigm transformation of the two is straightened out and clearly steered.During further argumentation, it’s profoundly understood that the history helped the human being make the social choice in each period with reasons. The process that each “civilization paradigm” steps on the historical stage, becomes orthodox and shapes the new future together with the mankind confirms the philosophy principle of“what is rational is real, what is real is rational”. Each paradigm is neither good & bad nor correct & wrong in itself. They created values most suitable for the development of the community in each period and solved the problems or crises the community faced at the very beginning. It’s the key to determine the nature of the paradigm whether it’s in the right time and place and whether it’s needed by and creates values for the authoritative community. The history evolves with the development of the mankind. Therefore, the civilization paradigm must accord with the pace of development. Once fails, no longer creates values or even retards the further actualization of values and development, the paradigm must be eliminated. However,such elimination is unavoidable. Because the knowledge of the mankind is historically limited and the development of society is in stages, there is no chance that one type of civilization paradigm can cover all demands of the human society in the long history.If such paradigm exists, the development of the human society should have reached its end, or is ended from the beginning. Therefore, the replacement of civilization paradigm isn’t something to be feared. It is, on the contrary, the manifestation of the spiral progress and upgrade of the human society, the dynamic embodiment of the courage of the mankind in exceling themselves and exploring the new prospects, as well as the embodiment of the brave mankind spirits of acknowledgment, self-denial and autocriticism.During the transformation period from the industrial civilization paradigm to ecological civilization paradigm, we have to return to the core part of paradigm, break through in an omnibearing manner, start from the psychological cognition, systems and rules and real acts and pay attention to the basic survival and sustainable development. Thus, we can draw the conclusions that the ecological transformation of civilization paradigm is the development mode most favorable to sustainable production, the system reform aroused by the autocriticism logic of the mankind and the value orientation of self behavior by the subject.
